This is a favorite art shot of mine, and it came from a single exposure, unlike most of my HDR photography. I started by running the raw file through the HDR process, creating a pseudo HDR image. I then did several passes of enhancements to different regions of the image. The horse in the foreground got special treatment first, then I enhanced the grass, removing a few piles of horse droppings as needed. The buildings had their own set of enhancements, as did the foliage in the distance. I specifically boosted some contrast in these areas too, so that not only the detail would be called out, but the patchwork of colored leaves would stand out more as well. And finally, it was overcast when I took the shot, so I let the clouds look as foreboding as possible.
